The SPAS 12 is a pump action shotgun that is part of the standard human weapons in The Conduit. Its name stands for Sporting Purpose Automatic Shotgun. It fires 12 gauge shells loaded with special fragmenting pellets.[1] The power of the charge of the shot is divided among the pellets.[2] This means that the combined force of each weak pellet can do a lot of damage, making the shotgun a powerful close combat weapon. Because its pellets disintegrate and don't make it far, it is useless at medium to long ranges.

In The Conduit's multiplayer, at close range it takes only one shot to kill an opponent, but at medium range one shot takes down about a quarter of the opponent's health. At long range, the gun is useless. In single-player mode, this works on most enemies, except Scarabs who take three, and Invaders.

In Conduit 2, the SPAS has an iron sight and looks different. It also has a new crosshair.

Strategy

Although the SPAS is a close combat to medium range gun, it would be best to be within about four feet of your opponent to deal a kill in multiplayer on The Conduit. A good strategy to remember is the SPAS melee strategy. Firing the SPAS and then finishing off your opponent with a melee attack. In many cases this strategy works well, however it can be exploited to increase the SPAS's rate of fire. Dealing with such users can be difficult, but to deal with them, keep in mind to keep a distance when taking on such users in combat. If you're too close, then you can be killed within seconds. Another strategy is ambushing. If you're in a high place such as the balcony on streets and an opponent is coming into the alley from below, you can jump down and fire directly at them; killing them before they have a chance to react to the ambush. In some cases though and opponent will be able to damage you or kill you due to reflexes, but in most cases this strategy can be useful. Dealing with users who exploit the SPAS glitch can be dealt with this way as well, however in The Conduit, you will show up on the radar just by moving. If you're hiding behind a corner or room, this can give you an advantage for a surprise attack.

Bullet pellets fired from the SPAS can bounce off of walls or the flooring and will still be able to hit your target with a minimal amount of damage done. This can be useful when firing at corners, however the impact rate decrease to no damage if the target is not within one foot of the ricocheting pellets.

Trivia

  • This weapon is never used by enemies in The Conduit's campaign mode.
  • A glitch in The Conduit makes it so if you walk over a shot gun on the ground while reloading you can change the load capacity up to 16 shells instead of 8 until you fire all of the shells.
  • The folding stock that the gun possesses is not used in-game in The Conduit.
  • There is a glitch in The Conduit that can increase the firing rate of the SPAS.
