Reformatting of Weapons Articles

Hey everyone, Barolb here. It's been a while since i've last done anything on the Wiki and after having some time, i thought about taking a look around to see if anything could be done and whatnot.

Both The Conduit and Conduit 2 have significantly different online experiences, so i thought it might be a good idea to discuss a change in the format. I was thinking of making two 2 point headers. The first is for The Conduit, and the second is for Conduit 2. Now, i've come to this conclusion based on the extra information that's given in Conduit 2 about these weapons. Since there's more information, along with the difference in online experience, i thought that it might be better to organize the sections differently from before.

Here is my proposed formats for weapons articles:

Suggestion 1:

The Conduit

Appearance

Reload

Melee

Strategies

Conduit 2

Appearance

Reload

Melee

Strategies

Store Information

Statistics

Another suggestion is the same as above. The difference is store information and statistics are under a different header:

Suggestion 2:

Conduit 2

Appearance

Reload

Melee

Strategies

Conduit 2 Store

Store Description

Statistics

A final suggestion i came up with is a minor change to the current layout, as inspired by the editor who included information in point form from The Conduit and Conduit under Reload and Melee in the Carbonizer Mk16 article.

Suggestion 3:

Appearance

  • The Conduit: etc
  • Conduit 2: etc

Reload

  • The Conduit: etc
  • Conduit 2: etc

Melee

  • The Conduit: etc
  • Conduit 2: etc

Strategies

Conduit 2 Store

Store Description

Statistics

The organization of the headers could also be switched around a bit. Appearance, Reload, and Melee could go under header 3 or 4, while Strategies and Conduir 2 Store could go under header 2. In such a case, a header 2 with the name "Weapon Information" could be made to make point on the information about the specific guns that are listed in apparance, reload etc so long as they're in header 3 or 4. This is for suggestion 3.

For articles with weapons that did not appear in the Conduit, a simple change of format in the first two suggestions could be made. Take out the "Conduit 2" header and "The Conduit" header and the following format of it. For the third suggestion no changes would be needed unless a third game is announced with adequate and supporting info.

I made only small changed to the Carbonizer Mk16 article in terms of formatting, but definitely give some input on this. I feel it's an obligation to make note of this thought to others so that a good, and organized, article could be made. I'm unsure myself how i think the articles should be organized as there's multiple ways to go about with it. I'm slightly leaning towards format 3 since weapon information is minor though.

The goal of this change is to make the articles easier to read for people who stumble upon the wikia looking for information. So, please give some good input on it.

PS: Sorry for making this so long

I liked your third suggestion the most, it keeps things easier to compare with each other. Ddd87 12:26, April 4, 2012 (UTC)
I also like the third suggestion most. If you need help refomatting the weapons than i can help. You might want to think up something different for the AEGIS Device though, it has much more info than the other weapons.Dr.Snipes 12:32, April 4, 2012 (UTC)
Good point on the AEGIS Device, Dr.Snipes. I'm look at the page right now. The format i came up with doesn't adapt to other information regarding the weapons. Although it's simpler, in comparison the AEGIS Device has charts, a section on the AEGIS rule, and a very long list of strategies. AEGIS Device, and other articles have beneficial suit upgrades too. Pictures may be added of redesigned weapons too, so it might be a good idea to take all that into consideration. Maybe other things that can be added in too.
For the time being, i also think suggestion three should be used (kind of funny since i suggested others too), but i think the other suggestions would work better under other conditions compared to suggestion three. I think a small reorganization of suggestion three may do well though, maybe a bit of a redesign of it too. I thought of this stuff as very simplistic without taking other things into account. While only thinking of weapon characteristics, and not of features and other information. First, i'll re-evaluate all the weapon articles to see what extra info each has, what each lacks etc. I should also refresh my memory on Conduit 2's changes too as well as check out what can be done in Wikia articles. After doing so, i'll repost a new design based off of suggestion three. I'm currently thinking that "Beneficial Suit Upgrades" should go under strategies, but i don't want to make it too clumped up together, so i'll have to take a good look at things first. I'll probably be done soon, that is if i don't get pulled away to do something else while working on it.

Maybe after this is done, other parts of the wikia could be taken a look at too. A new wikia page was made recently and its just given me a few ideas, if they haven't been done already. Those ideas/other stuff are better left to discuss after this is done though. After a final format has been worked out, we should adapt all current weapons articles to them.
Also, everyone's welcome to note changes they think are beneficial to suggestion three.

Several hours later, i come up with a new design. This one is a lot more length, and includes a lot more details compared to the other ones. I have put a Campaign section in header 2, a Weapons Overview in header 2, made statistics its own header, and included a real life use at the end of the page in header 2. Personally, i think this design looks pretty good. I'm not entirely sure on the Weapon Overview section as the appearance, reload and melee became a sub header, and the changes i made make it look a little hard to tell the difference between the two types. I'm thinking that it might be better to put it in point form, however i'm just throwing that idea out there. Without further ado, here is the next suggested design:

Campaign

Campaign is header 2

  • If the gun is only included in one game, simply remove the header of the game it's not included in, and note information on its use in the campaign of that specific game under that game's specific header.
  • Information about the gun in the campaign will be given such as which missions the gun makes an appearance, and what enemies/if enemies carry the gun.

The navigation box is below the reference, as i added to the Scar weapon page a few hours ago, but for some reason there's a reference error on there. Anyways, back to this design. Now, the changes are noted, as well as points on them to customize for each weapon based off of how each weapon appears in at least one game. Dr.Snipes, as you noted before about the AEGIS Device, i took in some consideration for how that article currently looks. Looking at the Strategies section, under the multiplayer sub header another two sub headers can be put in for the AEGIS Device Rule, as well as the Shield Chart. Both these things should be included under strategy, or rather they can be included under strategy. With that said, i'll go into a little more detail about this design.

Multiplayer is as a sub header because of the possibility of the weapon not being in multiplayer. There are some prototype weapons that aren't in multiplayer, of either games, if i'm correct. Although there are few, this can be adapted better this way. This way more sub sections can be included. I also included charts for weapon comparisons. Since Ddd87 likes the compare aspect of it, i decided to make this section as a basic weapon stats comparison. With this change, i've also been wondering about the top part with the original weapon stats and the infobox template. Now, i'm not sure if the most recent game stats should be listed there, or not, but i think it would probably be of interest to setup as such. The stats, if it appeared in The Conduit, would be included in the statistics section anyways. Also, speaking of the infobox, i think two points should be added to the template to update it a bit. Both should note if it appears in The Conduit and Conduit 2 or one or the other.

The real life use section i included based off of one of the points i saw in one of the other articles. I think it would be an intereting addition to the page if info were included on realistic weapons. Sci-fi weapons do not need it to be included, unless they actually exist in real life.

Finally, i also included points in each section on the ifs of using them. This way it would make the appearance a bit more organized if the weapon does not include in a game. If a gun does not appear in one of the games, then nor does the sections on it.

When this is all done, i'll clean up the past models from the talk page, and only have the final one for show as headers 3 and above to avoid making major sections on this page.

Anyways, let me know what you all think. ~Barolb 12:02, April 6, 2012 (UTC)

This looks really good, but the AEGIS Device has 2 charts. i suppose they could be blended together though. I think it will add a lot more information to each weapon, and possibly even make it easier to read. Dr.Snipes 12:20, April 6, 2012 (UTC)
